APPENDAGES - 7 Week - Sunday Afternoon NOV/DEC
APPENDAGES: Spouts, Handles, Lids, Knobs, and Lugs on Ceramics.
This class is not for beginners. It is recommended you have, at least, an intermediate understanding of clay work to enroll! We spend very little time in class making items. Class time will mainly be spent making accessories for items (handles, lids lugs). Each class, you will show up with items you have made and gotten to leather hard (If we are working on handles, you would bring leather hard mug bodies, for example) You will need to make your clay items outside of class and bring in leather hard or stiffened wares. You are welcome and encouraged to use the studio to make your wares. If you need to use the SPAC studio BEFORE the actual class starts to create your wares, connect with me directly!
Participants will receive tools, glaze, and instruction from a SPAC instructor. The instructor leads the class through a 7 Week session of recurring classes. Several items (and attempted items!) will be made throughout the duration of the class. There will be a mix of wheel throwing and handbuilding to work on the various appendages associated with clay work. Participants will learn to make several different styles of handles in several sizes, 4 different types of lids and several knob styles, different spouts to complement various pouring pot bodies, lugs, and more! More topics are sure to come up in class and will be touched on as they surface.
You are welcome to bring your own clay to use for class, or you can purchase clay from the SPAC studio for $1.00 per pound. After the class has ended, your work will be slowly and safely bisque fired to Cone 06 for you to pick up later. After your work is bisque fired, if you would like to use SPAC glazes and the studio to finish your pieces, that option is available to you for free. Finally, I let you know once the final firing is completed!
